Living by Faith

Life’s timing is a bit bumpy and inconvenient at times isn’t it.  It just seems like we cannot anticipate all the bumps in the road that we will face; however, take courage my friend as you read this post that there is comfort, strength and purpose even in the bumpy times.

Join me as we open our Bible’s and look at Luke 2: 1-7; here we have the written story of how a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that everyone had to be registered.  It’s not like today where you can go online and register, we see in verses four and five that Joseph and Mary would have to travel together the long hard journey from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife.

Talk about timing, not only was this a long hard journey, Mary was pregnant at the time.  Scripture goes on to tell us “So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

My friend, we may not see the big picture at the time, but we can always take comfort in knowing that God will use the circumstances in our lives to fulfill His purpose and in His timing.  Through this long hard journey a glorious prophesy was fulfilled; Christ our Savior being born in Bethlehem was a fulfillment of prophecy announced in Micah 5:2.

God did not soften Joseph and Mary’s long bumpy road, but He strengthened them. God did not provide a luxurious inn for them, but brought his Son into the world in humble surroundings. When we do God’s will, we are not guaranteed comfort and convenience, but we are promised that everything has a purpose in God’s plan and that He will guide you and provide all you needs.  Live each day by faith, trusting that God is in control.
